Demetria Layton - 9th Grade Counselor 

Mrs. Demetria Layton graduated from Caddo Parish Magnet High School in 2002.  After graduating from high school, she attended Dillard University.  Due to Hurricane Katrina, Mrs. Layton finished her Bachelor of Arts degree from Louisiana State University of Shreveport.  She then went on to purse her teaching certification and Master's of Arts in Counseling and Guidance from Louisiana Tech University.  Mrs. Layton's teaching career began as a classroom teacher in 2010.  In 2013 she began her career as a guidance counselor at Fair Park High School. In 2015, she became a Licensed Professional Counselor with the Louisiana Licensed Professional Counselors Board of Examiners.  When Fair Park was shut down in 2017, Mrs. Layton become one of the guidance counselors at Broadmoor Middle Lab.  While a new addition to The Ranch, Mrs. Layton is still committed to serving all students. 

Megan Allen - 10th Grade Counselor 

After graduating high school from Caddo Parish, Megan Allen went on to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Counseling and Guidance at Louisiana Tech University. She started her teaching career in Caddo Parish as a Geometry teacher in 2016 and in 2019 has taken on the role as school counselor. She enjoys getting to help students in all facets as a counselor but especially helping them reach their full potential and prepare for their future.  

Megan enjoys spending time with her husband, family, and friends. 

Kathryn Murphy - 11th Grade Counselor

Kathryn Murphy graduated from Southwood High School in 2002. After graduating high school, she went on to study business at Louisiana State University Shreveport. She graduated from LSUS with a Bachelor's in Marketing in 2007. She was driven to pursue her Master's in Counseling by her desire to help people achieve their goals and better understand themselves. She graduated from Louisiana Tech with her Master's in Counseling and Guidance in 2010. She has enjoyed working as a high school counselor for five years and loves helping students succeed at her Alma Mater.

 

Kathryn enjoys spending time with her daughter, family and friends, reading and traveling.

Susan Holmes - 12th Grade Counselor

Mrs. Susan Holmes has been blessed to be an educator for over 30 years! She was a classroom teacher for 7 years & has been a counselor in elementary, middle & high schools since then. She earned her undergraduate degree in Education from Texas A&M University and her Master’s in Counseling & Guidance from Texas Women’s University. Originally from Dallas, TX, Mrs. Holmes met her husband while at Texas A&M University and they have been happily married for 32 years. They have one son who works in Dallas in the IT field and three cats that rule the house. In her free time, Mrs. Holmes loves visit her siblings, read, work in the garden and help with Monarch butterfly conservation.

 

Mrs. Holmes loves working with students to help them explore post high school goals and career choices as well as develop the skills necessary to achieve those goals. She is thrilled to be at Southwood and can’t wait to meet each of her students.
